Pergola or Cover? Look at Where the Sun Comes From.
A pergola is a beautiful structure. It is not a roof.
A pergola with rafters a few inches apart cuts a portion of the direct sun, shifting through the day, and stops no rain. That’s perfect over a pool deck, a north-facing patio or a garden dining area. On a west-facing Round Rock patio at 5 p.m. in August it will not make the space usable on its own.
So the consultation starts with orientation. The answer is often a pergola with a retractable canopy, tighter lattice, or a louvered roof. Sometimes it’s an honest recommendation for a solid cover instead.

The cedar look with no maintenance, ideal by pools.

Engineered for Round Rock Wind
A freestanding structure has nothing to lean on.
Open lots on the east side of Round Rock and the ridgelines to the west take real wind. We size footings for the soil, anchor posts properly, size beams for their span and knee-brace where needed, then permit the structure where the city requires it. That’s why ours stay square through spring storms.

Pergola FAQ, Round Rock
How much does a pergola cost in Round Rock?
A cedar pergola costs less than a solid cover; aluminum and louvered systems cost more. Size, attachment and electrical drive the number. Fixed quote after measuring; ranges in our cost guide.
Do I need a permit for a pergola in Round Rock?
Freestanding pergolas below a size threshold are often exempt; attached and larger ones need a permit. HOAs almost always want approval. We check your address.
How much shade does a pergola give?
Partial, varying through the day. Tighter spacing, lattice or a canopy increases it. For full shade on a west patio, consider louvered or solid.
Wood or aluminum?
Wood for the look and price; aluminum for zero maintenance near pools and for HOAs that prefer low-maintenance materials.
Can I add a roof later?
Sometimes, with a polycarbonate or canopy top. If you’ll want rain protection, it’s cheaper to build solid or louvered now.
